Potencial de la cáscara de banano como ingrediente funcional en alimento balanceado y sus posibles implicaciones en la salud digestiva de los felinos domésticos

El presente trabajo revisa la bibliografía existente acerca del potencial de la cáscara de banano como ingrediente en alimentos balanceados para gatos domésticos y su relación con la salud digestiva. Se pretendió describir su composición nutricional y compuestos bioactivos, identificar la evidencia existente sobre ingredientes fibrosos y prebióticos en la microbiota de los felinos, y discutir la viabilidad y vacíos de investigación. Metodológicamente se utilizó un enfoque cualitativo de tipo documental a través de una revisión narrativa de 50 artículos científicos publicados en el período 2021-2026, procedentes de bases de datos indexadas, organizados en una matriz de consistencia. Los resultados obtenidos indican que la cáscara de banano presenta un alto valor nutricional y un contenido fenólico superior al de la pulpa, ha sido evaluada en rumiantes, aves y peces, con resultados favorables en determinados niveles de inclusión. También se muestra que la fibra dietética y los prebióticos mejoran los parámetros digestivos y modulan la microbiota felina, aunque con niveles de tolerancia más estrictos. Sin embargo, no se encontraron estudios que evalúen directamente este subproducto en felinos domésticos. Se deduce que existe una base teórica firme que sustenta su factibilidad como ingrediente funcional. Sin embargo, la falta de evidencia experimental directa es un vacío de conocimiento que justifica el desarrollo de investigaciones futuras, en particular ensayos in vitro de fermentación fecal felina previos a la fase in vivo.
